Title

police car blocking I-83

Description

During the evening of Wednesday, April 22 a group of protestors walked from the Western District police station (where most of the previous protests were located) down Pennsylvania Ave. into downtown. I caught up with Baltimore City Paper writer Brandon Soderberg and protestors once they were downtown. I believe this is one of the first times the Freddie Gray protests reached the downtown area of the city. The protestors were led by Rev. Westley West of West Baltimore. The group of protestors all appeared to be locals of Baltimore and mostly West Baltimore. The protestors attempted to march onto I-83 where a police car was blocking the exit ramp onto the interstate. In this picture, many young people are gathered peacefully demonstrating around the police car before heading back through downtown, Mount Vernon, Seton Hill, and back up Pennsylvania Ave. to West Baltimore. You can read Soderberg's summary of this march on the City Paper website: http://www.citypaper.com/blogs/the-news-hole/bcpnews-listen-to-your-pastor-rev-westley-west-shuts-down-mlk-attempts-to-take-83-has-baltimore-youth-behind-20150423,0,877472.story
